KETSO started in 2003 by collecting and nursing tree seed suitable for fruit, timber, medicines, natural fertilizers, animal fodder, firewood and carbon sequestration. The saplings were planted at three pilot locations in Sierra Leone to determine the growth rate and impact on the communities involved. An evaluation of these demonstration plots has led to a selection of optimal plantation sites and the conclusion that agroforestry techniques will fulfil both local and international demands for forest products. In 2010 years we can start harvesting the pineapples. The generated income will be used to finance the timber and community plots. KETSO supports and stimulates community growth by building access roads, bridges and a junior school for village children. At present KETSO is developing a forest to satisfy the demand for pineapple and palm oil. The project is entitled “PINEAPPLES, JUICE, OIL AND TIMBER ” and requires the purchase of land, nursing of saplings and marketing of fruit and oil for local and international markets. The KETSO website is means as a tool to attract investors and inform them about the organisations progress.
